Our Story

How it all started...

God birthed Kailua Community Church in 1975, when a small group of Spirit-led Christians from a C&MA church in the Philippines began meeting in a home here in Kailua. That same year, Pastor Doug Grogan was called as the first pastor for this growing group. The growing church began meeting at Keolu Elementary School and then moved to the Kailua Seventh-day Adventist Church eighteen months later.

Land was purchased on Oneawa Street and a donated building was moved on to the site. This building became the new sanctuary, while a tiny house left on the property was used for offices and Sunday school classes.

On May 23, 1982, groundbreaking ceremonies marked the start of our existing sanctuary. In February of 1988, after much hard work and sacrifice, our present day sanctuary was dedicated and the first service in the new sanctuary was held.

Pastor Doug left in 1984 to serve the Lord in Utah. Pastor Keith Newsome was called to be the church's next pastor until August 8, 1999 when he moved to pastor another church in Palm Springs. At this time, Pastor Perry Alexander began serving as interim pastor. Then on February 8, 2000, Pastor Perry accepted God's call and KCC's invitation to be the third lead pastor.
